Nusa Penida : Tips
This is not a complete guidance, I hope it’s helpful. The basic accommodations are listed below.
• Get there; Take a boat from Sanur (from the
entrance/bike parking are, left side are the boat to Nusa Penida, right side are
the boat to Nusa Lembongan). Boat operator: Maruti Express. One way fare 75.000
IDR (for domestic) and 175.000 IDR (for foreigner). Schedule daily: from Sanur 08.30 AM, 10.00
AM, 16.00 PM, from Nusa Penida 07.30 AM, 09.00 AM,
15.00 PM. Big Speed boat with seat, and pretty much clean. The ride across
approximately 30 min. Arrived on Toyapakeh Harbour in Nusa Penida.
• Getting around; Rent a bike is a must, because
no travel service and going around from place to place quite far. Price for
renting a bike are around 70.000 – 120.000 IDR. If you can bargain rent more
than 1 bike or few days, you can get lower price. Bike can rent from the hotel,
or rent it in the harbor upon arrival.
• Where to stay; Many bungalows around Toyakapeh
and Sampalan, starting from 100.000 IDR (dorm). But not many luxury hotels can
be found here. My recommendation: Nusa Garden Bungalow, around 9km from harbor.
• Where to eat; Local restaurant serve traditional
food can be found along the main road and not too pricey. If you looking for
fancy restaurant or bar to hang out, you will have the hard time here.
• Other accommodation; You can rent a snorkeling
gear, dive gear, and boat from the hotel; they will connect you to the local
operator here. If you need a guide, they can provide it also.
Nusa Penida is a perfect place for those who are looking
for an adventure. I manage to preparing the rough map of ‘must visit place’ in
Nusa Penida by myself. If anyone needs it, just drop the message and email
below.
• Hiking and trekking; Some roads are unfriendly
even for bike, and hidden place mostly had to reach by foot. But the beach, the
waterfall, and scenery along the way are worth the effort. Most notable, entrance ticket on the beach
and every natural destination in Nusa Penida are free.
• Snorkeling and diving; Nusa Penida is main
underwater destination even for visitors in Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan.
Manta and turtle often spotted, and the most exciting is seeing Mola-mola,
Ocean Sunfish that commonly famous in Nusa Penida.
• Cultural journey; Enjoy the beautiful landscape
with exotic rural part of Bali. Highlighted, we can find temple inside the
natural cave here.
Tips while getting around in Nusa Penida,
• There’s BRI ATM in Nusa Penida, but not many
place accept Visa or Mastercard. In case the ATM out of service, prepare enough
cash before jump in the boat are best choice.
• Always bring mineral water. It’s drier than in
mostly place in Bali, and some secluded place didn’t provide you drinkable
water.
• Bring snack or lunch, because you might end up
in the middle of nowhere when lunch time is up. But remember; always bring your
trash back.
• Always check your gas on the bike, don’t wait
until its empty then re-fuel the gas. If it’s below the half, I recommend to
re-fueling the gas whenever you see gas station/seller.
• Many places didn’t have the signage or exact
direction. You can’t depend on Google maps too, because the signal sometime got
lost. Don’t be shy to ask local people here, and make interaction with them. It
will save a lot of time.
• Lastly, spend more days here. Because 2-3 days
might not enough to explore all part of the island.
Contact; my preference while I stay here. There’s a nice Ukrainians
family who run this place. Check the IG @nusa_penida_island (artem) or
@nusa_penida_bungalow. Whatsapps: +6281239901421, or email to andriec.as@gmail.com. They’re also
available for tour around Nusa Penida – Diving – Snorkeling assistance.
